Knowing what is happening inside the system will help you properly diagnose why the system may be failing. This will prevent replacing parts that are not causing the system issue. Parking sensors are used for two different styles of systems, park assist and active park assist. Active park assist uses the same sensors in the front and rear bumpers; however, there are generally more sensors used. Whereas active park assist will tap into other vehicle systems to physically park the vehicle.
Normally, additional sensors are located in the sides of the bumper or in the fender. The sensors that are used are generally ultrasonic sensors. An ultrasonic sensor uses soundwaves to detect the distance to an object.
The sensor sends out and receives the soundwave after bouncing off a detected object. The time it takes for the soundwave to return determines the distance the object is from the sensor. Most park assist systems have their own module that calculates the distance to the objects. Then, the module triggers a chime or communicates with another module to display an image on the driver information center.
It may also send the signal to more than one computer to control the self-parking features. The park assist module is normally responsible for sending power to the parking sensors, along with receiving the signal back. Understanding how the system functions can shorten diagnostic times. I have taken it to a local auto electrical place, who have advised me it's the park assist module led short to positive.
My question is from all the modules on eBay, I have only fond one with the exact same markings as mine. Do I have to replace it with this or will others work? Also would I have to have it coded or is it simply plug in and it's working? Was hoping it would be plug and play. The version I need seems to be like gold dust. Ive replaced the switch myself.

Hi, thanks for the great guide, I've got a mk3 and am wanting to fit rear sensors. Unfortunately I've fallen at the first hurdle, how do you remove the rear side carpets to check for the connectors before I order bits? I've removed the two screws in the parcel shelf trim but neither it or the carpets will budge still.
Remove the screws and then you have to pull the carpet trim on the right wing down from behind the plastic trim that supports the parcel shelf. Place your hand on the top of the carpet trim above the wheel arch and push it down is probably the easiest way. Thanks, so I shouldn't need to remove the trim that supports the shelf?
A few things I read said I had to and I was struggling with that. Hiya I've got a mk3 focus estate and recently my reverse loom got melted ordered a new one from Ford and fitted it but still my reverse and front sensors ain't working I've managed it and found the connectors so a big win for me at leastI know the modules are model specific, are the sensors all generic and any will work?
Also is the connector behind the bumper obvious? I have confirmed that these Chinese works OK. Which Focus you have? I have still my rear parking module and loom for sale for Focus facelift MK3. That's half my problem, there seems to be tons of cheap sensors but the wiring doesn't seem to be sold anywhere. Looking on ebay there are a few used ones but all have different model numbers so I'm not sure if they are interchangable.

You can find it in the boot on the right side, under the boot lining: if cannot find anything, unfortunately you cannot retrofit it If you have there just one yellow connector - you can retrofit just the rear sensors if you have there 3 connectors 2x yellow, 1x black - you are lucky and you can retrofit the front or the whole automated parking assist.Automotive Forums.
HOW TO: troubleshoot parking assist! Just an update for anybody troubleshooting the park assist: Last year I had the light come on my park assist button meaning there was a fault detected.
I purchased a new sensor, took the rear bumper cover off, and replaced the sensor on the right and plugged it back in and checked to see if the light went off. If not I swapped them back and moved on to the next sensor until the light went away. Having researched this, it appears that one can determine which sensor is bad by applying the parking brake, turning the key on don't start!
You should hear a sound similar to a spark plug firing. If you hear nothing at all, from any of the sensors, you park assist module is bad. If you hear sound from all of the sensors, your speaker is bad.
The reasoning is this: If you hear noise from all the sensors, obviously they work. And you can deduce that the module which is the brains of the sensors is also working. So, in my case the speaker was bad. I have a friend who has a repair shop and his Snap-On scanner was able to scan the rear sensors and tell me the code. The speaker is located on the passengers side, up in the headliner by the lift gate.
It is in a large plastic case and held in place by one bolt. I used a simple light bulb with 2 wires to test the circuit once the speaker was removed. The light on my dash went out, and the light bulb flashed instead of the beeping the speaker put out. I knew I had found my problem! I then began my quest to find another speaker. Only problem is they are on national back order, with no date set.
Plugged the new speaker in and all is well. I hope my work can help anyone trying to fix the park assist. It has 3 components. Sensors 2.
Module 3. Speaker I found it hard to believe that my speaker went out and threw the system into a fault mode, but I found out the hard way after tearing the bumper off, pulling each sensor out and so on that you can trouble shoot it with your ears and a simple light bulb. Thanks I will try to find my problem in a Windstar 03 I appreciate your help.
